The Sweet Service Award goes to Woolworths in Regent Road in Sea Point, and its manager Jean Burgher, for turning a bad service experience around. Shopping last Sunday afternoon, after clearly a busy day for the store, the shelves were very empty. I could not find my favourite yoghurt in a 1 liter size, and a staff member just shrugged his shoulders, and told me that the supplier did not deliver on that day. The manager was more honest, apologising for the poorly stocked shelves, and explained that she was two staff short, and therefore could not get the shelves refilled. She personally went to look for the yoghurt in the stock room, and returned with 500ml containers, which she charged as if they were 1litre ones, as an apology for the long wait.
The Sour Service Award goes to the Department of Home Affairs, who increased the cost of issuing identity documents and passports by 600 % and 110 %, respectively, from 1 April. A replacement or new identity book will now cost R140, and a new passport R 400.
