Jordan Winery to take over The Bakery @ Jordan in May!

Jordan bakeryIt was a surprise to pick up that The Bakery @ Jordan, operated by Chef George Jardine and his staff for more than two years, will become part of the Jordan Tasting Room and that the Winery will operate its own Bakery from May onwards.

I contacted Jordan Winery owner Gary Jordan, and he explained it as follows: ‘The plan is to close for 3 or 4 days from the 3rd May to service equipment and clean, paint and reorganise. The Tasting Room and The Bakery will integrate to improve service time and the general experience. Accommodation visitors will now be able to have breakfast at The Bakery (previously it opened too late for the accommodation guests to enjoy the experience.) The Bakery should open again in time for Mother’s Day’.

Asking him specifically, Gary confirmed that there are no hard feelings between Jordan Winery and Chef George, and that The Bakery had in fact been a distraction for Chef George. He told me that they have eaten at Chef George’s new Jardine Restaurant in central Stellenbosch several times since it opened.

The non-renewal of The Bakery @ Jordan lease by George Jardine in no way impacts on the operation of Jordan Restaurant, Gary emphasised proactively.

    Hi Chris,
In other news, Ivor Jones is leaving Test Kitchen. I wonder who enticed him away?
