The Chefs who Share – the ART of Giving competition to find South Africa’s Young Chef has started cooking, with 75 restaurants around the country having been sent invitations for one of their up-and-coming chefs to participate in the competition.

Beautiful presentation boxes were prepared, with details of the competition, and a Chefs who Share apron, and were dispatched to top restaurants around the country, including five hundred and DW Eleven-13, and Mosaic at The Orient in Gauteng; Hartford House in KwaZulu-Natal; The Greenhouse, The Test Kitchen, The Pot Luck Club, Aubergine, Azure, Ellerman House, La Colombe, and Chef’s Warehouse in Cape Town; Overture, Delaire Graff, Tokara, Equus, Rust en Vrede, Waterkloof and more in the Stellenbosch and Somerset West area; and Foliage, Pierneef à la Motte, The Tasting Room in Franschhoek.

The competition is open to chefs aged 29 years and younger, holding a South African ID, and to be availed to be in Cape Town from 8 – 11 September. Their brief is to design an exceptional canapé creation within a budget of R 25. The canapés of the seven Young Chef finalists will be served on the evening of the Chefs who Share Gala Dinner in the City Hall on 10 September, to 252 VIP guests. The seven finalists will also have the honor to work with the seven chef teams cooking for the Chefs who Share Gala Dinner.

During their time in Cape Town the seven finalist young chefs will be mentored by International Chefs who Share Patron Chef Reto Mathis, brand ambassador for Swiss International Airline, and owner of a number of top Swiss restaurants. The winning Young Chef will be chosen by Chef Reto and the 14 top local chefs and announced at the Chefs who Share Gala Dinner.

The winning Young Chef will be flown to Europe by Swiss International Air Lines, will cook in a Michelin-star restaurant kitchen, and will experience a two-day food and wine pairing with Moët et Chandon, guaranteed to be an amazing mind-blowing experience for one of our next up-and-coming top chefs! The closing date for entry is 15 July.
